Towards a physically-based VPR identification method

We present here an adaptation of the Vertical Profile of Reflectivity (VPR) identification method initially proposed by Andrieu and Creutin (1995). This method was used to filter the radar sampling effects which are becoming very significant and smooth the actual VPR shape as long as the region of interest extends far from the radar site. It was firstly adapted to the case of time-varying geographical support of homogenous rain types.
Now, our attempt is to leave the statistical constraints of the algorithm to include some physical information and retrieve a physical and coherent interpretation of the rain vertical structure from radar measurements. We use a microphysical model of VPRs designed by Boudevillain and Andrieu (2003).
