3rd international MedCORDEX workshop 26-27-28th of May, 2014
Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau, France

TTM3: HyMeX modelling task team, Mediterranean Regional Climate Models
Med-CORDEX: Mediterranean domain of the WCRP CORDEX program

Venue: Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau at amphitheater Becquerel
To come from the Paris downtown, check here it is 40 min from downtown but it may take one hour depending on waiting time for bus and train.

The 3rd international workshop dedicated to the MED-CORDEX initiative will be held in Palaiseau, near Paris, on 26-28 May 2014. It is the opportunity for the international MED-CORDEX community to be gathered to present and discuss key scientific results focussing on the modelling of the Mediterranean regional climate, present and future, and to discuss the future priorities for the phase II of MED-CORDEX. During these 3 days, six scientific sessions will be proposed to present a wide range of scientific issues. They will be completed by small-group round tables to discuss specific points and by plenary discussions. Valorization, fundings opportunities, future priority research will then be addressed.

We are thus encouraging people to submit an abstract before April 25th 2014 (send an email to sophie.bastin@latmos.ipsl.fr and samuel.somot@meteo.fr) on one of the following sessions:
    • Session 1: Model inter-comparison. It concerns intercomparison studies for statistical and dynamical atmospheric, oceanic and land surface models.
    • Session 2: Evaluation and model improvement. It concerns all kind of evaluation but studies using new datasets, new methods or HYMEX observations are particularly welcomed. Model improvement particularly concerns bias corrections methods and parameterizations analysis and development.
    • Session 3: Regional process studies.A special focus on land-atmosphere, ocean-atmosphereand land-ocean (rivers) interactions is expected.
    • Session 4: Extreme events. It includes all kind of extremes. Studies evaluating the added value of high resolution are encouraged.
    • Session 5: Towards Med-CORDEX 2: it concerns new regional climate modeling tools going further than the CORDEX and Med-CORDEX current frameworks. This may include studies involving other processes such as aerosols, land-use or interactive vegetation as well as the use of cloud resolving models, eddy-resolving or zoom ocean models, or of complex surface hydrological models
    • Session 6: Climate change, uncertainty and impacts. Multi-model ensemble studies are encouraged. The issue of climate services can also beaddressed here.

Notification of acceptance will be sent by email in early May.
